Why you should add Bamboo shoots to your diet?

Bamboo shoots, a staple ingredient in Asian cuisine, are widely consumed in Nepal and the northeast region of India in various forms such as fresh, fermented, and dried. One of the most popular dishes made with bamboo shoots in Nepal is Alu Tama Bodi, a curry made with potatoes, beans, and bamboo shoots, which is prepared differently by each ethnic group. Bamboo shoots are also commonly used as pickles in Nepal and are often dried for use later, especially in mountainous regions.

Apart from being a versatile ingredient in cooking, bamboo shoots offer several health benefits. They are low in calories and high in fiber, copper, and vitamins. Recent studies have shown that consuming bamboo shoots regularly can aid in weight management and is beneficial for individuals with diabetes. It is also believed to be good for people suffering from gastric and ulcer issues. Additionally, bamboo shoots may help reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, and help balance cholesterol levels. Vitamin B6, a vital water-soluble vitamin involved in over 140 biochemical reactions within the body’s cells, is also abundant in bamboo shoots.

Therefore, it is highly recommended to incorporate bamboo shoots into your diet in whichever form you prefer, either by following traditional recipes or experimenting with new ways of incorporating them into your meals.
